It is hard to believe that R 20th Century has been around for ten years. The gallery, led by Evan Snyderman and Zesty Meyers, has become one of the most important venues in the city to see work by some of the most respected designers of the 20th century. Over the years they have even veered into the realm of contemporary design. Personally I always look forward to visiting their booth at the design shows because it is always fresh and exciting. Snyderman and Meyers are incredibly knowledge and have a great sense of humor- which always comes through in design of their booths. Additionally, the gallery has amassed a respectable collection of interviews, archives, and research materials which makes it an important destination for design historians.
Works on view ill include a selection of historical and contemporary designers which R 20th Century exhibits including Greta Magnusson Grossman, Verner Panton, Poul Kjærholm, Wendell Castle, Sergio Rodrigues, Hugo França, David Wiseman and Jeff Zimmerman. In addition to the design objects, the exhibition will include rare and never before seen works including archival photographs from Wendell Castle, original photographs by renowned 20th century architectural photographer Julius Shulman, and architectural and industrial drawings by Greta Magnusson Grossman, as well as selections from R’s extensive library of antiquarian design books and from the printed matter the gallery produced.
The celebration will take place this Saturday, March 19 from12-6 pm.
