WOMEN IN MOTION: FITNESS, SPORT, AND THE FEMALE FIGURE AT THE FROST ART MUSEUM ON THE MODESTO A. MAIDIQUE CAMPUS AT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY—This exhibition, on view in the Wolfsonian Teaching Gallery at the Frost Art Museum, explores the images of physically active women produced by governments, fitness advocates, advertisers, and artists in Europe and the United States during the first half of the twentieth century. Drawn from The Wolfsonian’s collection, the exhibition incorporates a variety of media, from posters and magazines to decorative and fine art. The exhibition is co-curated by FIU faculty members Laurie Shrage, professor of Philosophy and director of Women’s Studies, and Dionne Stephens, assistant professor of Psychology and African and African Diaspora Studies. Women in Motion is on view January 26 through April 24, 2011 and made possible with financial support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
